When the Founders came to Velorium the planet represented a second chance, a new home a universe away from the sins of their past. But sin is not bound by the laws of space and time. Sin lives in the dark cracks and crevices of the heart, cracks formed by the breaking of dreams and crudely patched over by lust and envy. Wherever the heart brings darkness, sin will follow.
The fall of Velorium became known as the Collapse and The Founders were not the only empire it claimed. Those who came seeking the extinction of humanity shared in their fate. Now the planet is little but dust and ruin bearing only the faintest shadows of its former glory.
Those who remain know little about what came before. They live in oases scattered throughout the vast deserts of the ruined planet. Trade and travel made possible by duneships, vessels that use the power of wind and steam to drive their complex mechanical systems and crawl across the deserts on treads.
If humanity could be known for only one thing it would be their steadfast pursuit of progress. Empires march to war claiming neighbor after neighbor in a bid to become the new superpower. Trains and balloons open new possibilities to travel and threaten the duneship’s monopoly of the sands. But the enemies of mankind are not blind to the advances of their ancient foe, and know that if they are to survive they must act.
Velorium is the setting of my upcoming epic fantasy western series. I will be updating this page with information about the world, its cultures, technology, and threats.
